The Essential Guide to Starting Your Own Website

The Essential Guide to Starting Your Own Website

Before You Start Your First Website Years ago, one could simply purchase a domain name, set up a basic site, and watch as traffic rolled in. There was little to no effort on the host’s part, and getting a solid stream of visitors was not a difficult feat. However, times have changed, and as the internet evolves, so has the process of starting a website. While in many ways it has become easier, you’ll still need some know-how to not only survive, but to thrive – such as social media integration, and specially-crafted search engine optimization. However, despite these challenges, starting a website is still perfectly doable. We’re here to help! All it takes is a bit of time, skill, planning, and a few tips. 1) Define your Website Objective It can be easy to take your website in a dozen different directions at once. With the huge amount of possibilities and potential which exist nowadays, your website may easily detract from its primary purpose. Know what that purpose is, and don’t stray far from it! If your website exists simply to support your business, don’t plaster it with ads. Likewise, if you’re aiming for an e-commerce or advertising platform, keep that profit-driven focus. Keeping your website focused is essential if you hope to keep it in line with its purpose. 2) Brand your Website Whether you’re a new internet start-up or simply looking to showcase your existing business, you are going to need things to identify your company and website. Elements such as logos, slogans and themed graphics will help visitors and customers easily remember and keep track...

Client Media Spotlight: Sing See Soon

We’re pleased that our client, Sing See Soon Florists, were recently featured in Singapore’s Channel U Money Week Program on Feb 22. The focus was on how automating their systems ultimately resulted in them being able to serve their customers better, becoming a lot more productive and growing their business as a result. And we’re proud to have a role to play in that – we were involved in their workflow automation. As their digital marketing consultancy, we helped to launch their e-commerce site, improved their online presence and branding via their website and other social media channels. The improvements were felt immediately. For example, instead of taking orders by phone and email, or even through SMS, orders can now be taking via the e-commerce site. The backend is simple to use, allowing one person to process an order within one working day, instead of the three days it used to take – and up to three people to fulfill an order! They also talked a little on how they made use of government grants to implement these improvements to their business. Frustrated with the design of your website? Annoyed with email clients and clunky file sharing capabilities, where things just don’t seem to work as they should? These are pretty common complaints we hear from our clients – and with some patience and understanding of their business needs, we are able to solve their problems and make sure these tools work seamlessly for them. This is precisely what a recent client, the Advisors Alliance Group (AAG), faced. AAG is a group of individual financial adviser representatives representing either The Great Eastern Life Assurance Company Limited or Great Eastern Financial Advisers Private Limited. Here is how their website looked like, when they first approached us: There were a lot of issues with their previous website, some of them being: Flash banner not running Outdated design since 2009 Not mobile friendly Content not updated for a long time They also mentioned to us some other issues that they were facing: Email always down or not receiving at all Not able to create email for new agents Not able to share documents easily Updating website content is always an issue because they are not familiar with HTML coding And after some tweaking (and magic!), here is what their website looks like: aagroup.sg Here’s what has changed for them: we redesigned the website using wordpress CMS platform, and now they are able to upload and edit the content easily without any coding involved. Not only that, we also migrated their web hosting to our latest cloud hosting server. With the new server, their website now loads faster than before, enjoying 99.9% uptime – making sure that their customers will always have...

Our Cloud Hosting Server

Why We Made The Switch? Several months ago we started to migrate our hosting operation from the US data center to  Singapore  M1 data center. Part of the requirement for this project is to make full-use of cloud technology to scale up when we need it. We also wanted to break free from SHARED server environment with other people because we wanted to improve our security and have a better control. Here are several reasons why we decided to switch over to Singapore. We want to upgrade our server to a higher specs We want to reduce the response and loading time of our clients’ websites We want to have a better team in the data center itself We want to improve our security and have a better control We want to improve our data backup process Server Response and Loading Time Part of the reason why we initially hosted our server in the US is because of the cheaper operating cost. However, we found out that the performance in most of our client websites in terms of loading and responding was very slow.  Around 40% of our hosting clients were e-commerce websites. When an e-commerce website got a slow response or loading, it would decrease the conversation rate. This didn’t seem to add value to our clients. Therefore we decided to make the switch to Singapore M1 data center. Before we made the switch, a website which hosted on our US server took about 10 seconds or more to load. After the switch, it only takes about average of 3 to 5 seconds to load the website but it also...
