TL;DR

Singapore's veterinary clinic market sees over 6,000 monthly Google searches across core vet keywords — plus another 3,800 searches a month for "vet near me" alone. The brands that dominate Google traffic are not the same ones that own the conversation when pet owners turn to ChatGPT. Beecroft leads on raw traffic with 2,322 monthly visitors, but ChatGPT and Google's AI Overview increasingly route emergency and recommendation queries through Reddit threads and aggregator listicles — not clinic websites. The gap between Google visibility and AI visibility is where vet clinics are losing pet owners right now.

The Two Search Worlds Your Vet Clinic Lives In

Here's a number that should concern every vet clinic owner in Singapore: 3,800 people search "vet near me" on Google every month, and another 500 search "vet singapore." That's your traditional search traffic — the one you're probably optimizing for with SEO.

But here's what most clinic owners don't see: a growing number of pet owners are skipping Google entirely. They're opening ChatGPT or Perplexity and typing things like "My 8-year-old golden retriever has been limping for two days and I'm worried it could be hip dysplasia — which vet in the east of Singapore is best for orthopaedic cases and roughly how much would the consultation cost?"

That question would never appear as a Google keyword. But it's exactly the kind of question that sends pet owners to a clinic — or away from yours.

Google Search

Short, transactional. "vet near me." If you're not on page 1 — or in the local pack — you don't exist.

AI Search

Conversational. "My cat is 14, has kidney issues, and I live in Tampines — which vet handles geriatric feline care best?" If you're not in the answer, you don't exist.

AAOAggregator & Authority OptimizationCitations from third-party content sites that AI trustsListicle inclusions, directory placements, news mentions, expert quotes

Your vet clinic needs to show up not just when people search on Google, but also when they ask AI for advice. The clinics that figure this out first will capture pet owners that competitors never even see.

The biggest keyword isn't "vet singapore" — it's "vet near me." With 3,800 searches a month against 500 for the head term, "vet near me" is the single largest organic opportunity in this market. If your site only targets "vet singapore," you're missing the search group that's 7x bigger.

Branded search is bigger than category search. "Mount Pleasant vet" alone gets 200 searches a month — more than "vet hospital singapore" or "vet clinic singapore." "The Animal Clinic" pulls 300. Pet owners are searching for specific clinics by name, which means brand recall and PR drive Google volume, not just on-page optimization.

Niche-pet keywords are an underrated cluster. "Hamster vet," "rabbit vet," "cat vet," and "avian vet" each pull 100–150 searches a month with difficulty between 0 and 9. This is the lowest-hanging cluster in the entire vet SEO landscape — and most clinic websites have no dedicated pages for any of it.

What Pet Owners Are Really Looking For

Proximity

"Near me" variants account for over 4,000 monthly searches across the cluster. Location is the #1 ranking factor pet owners care about.

Emergency / 24-hour care

"24 hour vet," "emergency vet," and their variants combine for 700+ monthly searches. These are the highest-CPC keywords in the category ($2.00–$2.50).

Price transparency

"Affordable vet," "cheap vet," "cheapest vet" combine for 320+ monthly searches. Singapore pet owners are price-sensitive and explicit about it.

Specialty pets

Hamster, rabbit, cat, avian, reptile, and chinchilla queries combine for 700+ monthly searches. The cat keyword alone captures pet owners that big-dog-focused clinics often miss.

Beecroft leads on traffic but not on content depth. Beecroft pulls 2,322 monthly visitors from just 162 ranking keywords — concentrated wins, mostly clustered around the 24-hour emergency vertical. Mount Pleasant ranks for 64 more keywords (226 vs 162) but converts that into less traffic.

SingVet is the anomaly of the entire vertical. A DR of just 6 — essentially zero domain authority — yet 1,502 monthly visitors and 259 ranking keywords. They're punching far above their weight class, almost certainly through long-tail content depth. If you're a small clinic wondering whether you can compete with the chains, SingVet is your proof of concept.

Mount Pleasant has the broadest content footprint — 226 ranking keywords across multiple location pages (Yishun, Bedok, Bukit Timah, etc). They've productised the multi-location SEO play.

What's Driving the Gap? Beecroft dominates the 24-hour emergency cluster — they own the "emergency vet singapore" SERP through positioning and the brand name itself. VES Hospital owns the surgical-referral and specialist hospital queries with the highest DR (28) and referring-domain count (342) of any pure vet brand. Mount Pleasant's strength is breadth — the multi-location chain spreads across neighbourhoods, capturing local intent that single-clinic competitors can't. The traffic gap from top (Beecroft 2,322) to bottom (Pet Space 150) is 15x — and that's before you account for Reddit and aggregator sites siphoning off the rest.

Reddit owns position #5 for the head keyword — three r/askSingapore threads share that slot, all asking variants of "which vet should I go to?" Pet owners trust peer recommendation over clinic marketing, and Google ranks the conversation, not the clinics. None of the top 10 vet brands appear in those Reddit threads with their own content — only as user mentions.

Two of the top 15 are aggregator listicles — RehabVet's "Top 15 Vet Clinics" and Vanillapup's "Complete List of 24-Hour Vet Clinics." RehabVet alone pulls 819 monthly visitors from its single listicle URL with just 20 backlinks. That's a clinic website acting as an aggregator — and outranking other clinics for their own category keyword.

The 24-hour cluster is even more skewed: Google's AI Overview now fires on "emergency vet singapore" with 250 searches a month. That means Google itself is summarising the answer before pet owners ever see your clinic page. Your homepage can rank #1 and still not be the first thing the panicked dog owner reads.

03

What People Ask AI

How AI Prompts Differ From Google Searches

The difference is striking. A Google search is short and clinical: "emergency vet singapore." An AI prompt is long and personal: "My 11-year-old labrador just collapsed in our HDB flat in Tampines, she's still breathing but unresponsive — what's the closest 24-hour vet that can handle a senior dog emergency right now and roughly how much will it cost?"

Prompt TypeWhat It AsksExample PromptWhat Vet Clinics Need
ComparisonPits two or more options against each other"What's the difference between Beecroft and VES Hospital for emergency cases in Singapore?"Side-by-side comparison content, decision tables
RecommendationAsks AI to pick the best for a profile"What's the best vet in Tampines for a senior cat with kidney disease?"Strong third-party citations, persona-matching content
ValidationSanity-checks a tentative decision"Is Mount Pleasant a good vet for orthopaedic surgery?"Reviews, third-party endorsements, testimonials
How-ToAsks for a process or step-by-step"How do I prepare my dog for desexing surgery in Singapore?"Process guides, FAQ content, evergreen explainers
Persona-DrivenEmbeds the user's profile in the prompt"I'm a first-time dog owner with a French bulldog puppy in Bishan — which vet should I register with?"Persona pages, condition-specific content
Decision-SupportAsks AI to weigh trade-offs"Should I take my hamster to a regular vet or find an exotic vet in Singapore?"Pros-and-cons content, scenario-based guides
DiscoveryOpen-ended exploration"What are my options for end-of-life care for my elderly cat in Singapore?"Category-level pillar content, "ultimate guide" style
Local-ContextualPins to a Singapore-specific location or constraint"Best vet near Tampines MRT open on Sunday evenings?"Location pages, hyperlocal landing pages, GBP

Vet AI prompts are the most emotionally-loaded prompts in any healthcare vertical. Pet owners don't just want a clinic — they want reassurance, a price estimate, and a recommendation that fits their specific pet, condition, and neighbourhood. That's three layers of context Google keywords can't capture.

Local-Contextual and Persona-Driven dominate. Pet ownership in Singapore is HDB-clustered — owners know their neighbourhood, their pet's age, their budget, and they put all three in the prompt. A clinic that doesn't have content matching these contextual signals won't be retrieved.

What AI Actually Tells Pet Owners

We tested real prompts through ChatGPT and Google's AI Overview. The results reveal a major gap.

PROMPT"What's the best emergency vet in Singapore for a dog?"(~250 monthly Google searches; AI Overview now fires)

  • • ChatGPT consistently surfaces Beecroft and VES Hospital by name, framed as the two main 24-hour options
  • Mount Pleasant Animal Hospital appears as a third recommendation when prompted for alternatives
  • • Pricing ranges quoted: $150–$300 emergency consultation, with after-hours surcharges of $100–$200
  • • Sources cited skew toward Reddit r/askSingapore, VES Hospital's own emergency page, and RehabVet's "Top 15" listicle
  • Advanced VetCare, AWRC, and Animal Recovery Veterinary Referral Centre are NOT mentioned by default — despite all three offering 24-hour care

PROMPT"Which vet in Singapore is good for senior cats with kidney disease?"(persona-driven prompt — no direct Google equivalent)

  • • ChatGPT's response is dominated by Reddit threads and Pets at Peace-style aggregator content, not by individual clinic websites
  • The Cat Vet and The Animal Clinic are mentioned when ChatGPT is pushed for specific names
  • Mount Pleasant, Beecroft, and VES Hospital are notably absent for this persona — despite all three having geriatric and internal medicine capability
  • • The response includes generic guidance about "finding a clinic with feline-only practice" — clinics that haven't published cat-specific content lose this prompt entirely

PROMPT"How much does it cost to neuter a male dog in Singapore?"(~80 monthly searches across "dog neuter singapore" and variants)

  • • ChatGPT cites a price range of $300–$800, depending on dog size, with most responses anchoring around $400–$600
  • • Sources cited: Reddit r/askSingapore, VanillaPup, and one or two clinic blog posts (most commonly Mount Pleasant's pricing page and The Animal Clinic's service guide)
  • • Most clinic websites don't publish prices — so ChatGPT pulls them from forums and listicles, then attributes the range to "vets in Singapore" rather than to any specific clinic

PROMPT"Is there a hamster vet near Tampines?"(~150 monthly searches on "hamster vet singapore," KD: 9)

  • • ChatGPT defaults to The Animal Clinic and Mount Pleasant (both have multi-location footprints) and explicitly notes that "exotic-pet experience varies by clinic"
  • • Niche-pet clinics like Beecroft (despite high overall traffic) are NOT cited for hamsters — their content is overwhelmingly dog and cat
  • • Reddit and Pets at Peace forums are the primary citation sources

The Citation Problem

When AI recommends Singapore vet clinics, it cites content aggregator sites — not the clinic's own website. Across the prompts we tested, the most-cited domains were:

  • reddit.com/r/askSingapore — peer recommendation threads, often 3+ years old, but treated by AI as authoritative
  • rehabvet.com/blog — a clinic that runs a "Top 15 Vet Clinics" listicle and now ranks for both branded and category queries
  • vanillapup.com — a SG pet-lifestyle aggregator with 24-hour vet listicles
  • avs.nparks.gov.sg — Singapore government regulator pages, cited for licensing and protocol questions
  • petsathome / petspace forum threads — community Q&A
  • • Individual clinic homepages — but only the top 3–4 brands (Beecroft, VES, Mount Pleasant, occasionally The Animal Clinic)

Note on methodology: Ahrefs Brand Radar's pre-tracked prompt index for the Singapore veterinary category is currently sparse — the live AI prompt market for this vertical has grown faster than the SEO tool ecosystem can index. We tested directly through ChatGPT and validated against Google's AI Overview, which now fires on the emergency vet keyword.

Your AI visibility depends on your presence across the web, not just on your own site. Vet clinic owners need a PR and content distribution strategy, not just on-site SEO.

Keywords vs Prompts

Same Need, Different Expression

Pet Owner NeedGoogle KeywordAI PromptWhat Changes
Find a vet nearby"vet near me""Best vet within 10 minutes of Bishan that takes walk-ins on Saturday morning?"AI gets neighbourhood, day, walk-in preference — Google gets none of it
Handle a pet emergency"24 hour vet singapore""My dog ate chocolate 30 minutes ago, what do I do and which vet should I go to right now?"AI gets the actual emergency context — Google just gets the hours
Find an affordable clinic"cheapest vet in singapore""I'm a student with a rescue cat, which vet in Singapore is good but won't charge me $300 just for a check-up?"AI gets budget AND profile AND price expectation
Check a specific clinic"mount pleasant vet""Is Mount Pleasant Yishun a good clinic for a senior beagle with arthritis?"Branded keyword → validation prompt with full context
Find an exotic-pet vet"hamster vet singapore""My Syrian hamster has wet tail and I live in the west — which vet treats hamsters and is open today?"AI gets condition + location + urgency
Compare two clinics(no equivalent)"What's the difference between Beecroft and VES Hospital for a dog emergency?"AI-only intent — no Google keyword captures this
Get a price estimate(no equivalent)"How much does it cost to spay a 5kg cat in Singapore?"Price-discovery prompt — Google forces users into multiple searches
End-of-life decisions(no equivalent)"My 16-year-old cat is suffering — should I do home euthanasia or go to a clinic?"High-stakes emotional prompt with no clean keyword equivalent
First-time pet owner"vet for puppy singapore""I just adopted a 10-week-old French bulldog puppy, what's the best vet in central Singapore for a first-time dog owner?"AI gets pet age, breed, location, owner experience

Key stats: AI prompts average 18–28 words vs 3–5 for keywords. Vet prompts skew longer than other healthcare verticals — pet owners encode breed, age, condition, neighbourhood, budget, and urgency into a single sentence.

Beecroft's traffic dominance doesn't translate to AI dominance. They're the Google traffic leader by a wide margin, but ChatGPT defaults to citing them only on the emergency vertical. For senior-cat queries, exotic-pet queries, and surgical referrals, they're often missing — because their content depth doesn't match those personas.

The Animal Clinic punches above its weight in AI. Despite ranking 8th on Google traffic (471/mo), it's one of the most-mentioned brand names in ChatGPT responses for general vet queries — likely because of its strong branded search volume (300/mo) and long-standing brand equity, both of which are signals AI training data picks up.

SingVet has the opposite problem. Their content depth wins on Google (1,502 traffic, 259 keywords from a DR-6 site) but their brand presence in Reddit, forums, and listicles is thin — so AI rarely surfaces them. Long-tail SEO content alone doesn't translate to AI visibility without the off-site distribution.

Intents That Exist Only in AI

  • • Pet-specific emergency triage (e.g., "my cat ate a lily")
  • • Multi-criteria recommendations (location + breed + budget + condition)
  • • Comparison between two named clinics
  • • Price-estimate prompts before booking
  • • End-of-life and home-euthanasia decision support
  • • First-time pet owner orientation prompts
  • • Insurance and CHAS-equivalent payment-mode questions

Google Keywords With No AI Traction

  • • "vet jobs singapore" / "vet salary singapore" — career-intent, not patient-intent
  • • "vet course singapore" / "vet tech course singapore" — education queries
  • • "singapore vet show 2025" — event queries
  • • "vet nurse jobs singapore" — recruitment queries

Just because pet owners find you on Google doesn't mean AI will recommend you. These are two different systems with different rules. You need to optimize for both.

The Optimization Roadmap

LayerWhat You're OptimizingSpecific Actions
SEOGoogle rankingsBuild location-specific landing pages (Tampines, Bishan, Bukit Timah, Sengkang); publish a "Vet near me" page targeting the 3,800/mo head term; create niche-pet condition pages (hamster wet tail, rabbit GI stasis, cat CKD)
AEOFeatured snippets and PAAPublish FAQ schema-marked pages for the 4 People-Also-Ask questions on the head SERP; write concise definition blocks for "how much does a vet visit cost in Singapore"
GEOLocal pack and "near me"Optimise GBP for every location with weekly photos and reviews; audit NAP consistency; build dedicated landing pages per neighbourhood with embedded maps
AIOChatGPT and Perplexity recommendationsPublish branded pricing pages (most clinics don't); create persona-driven content (senior cat, first-time puppy owner, exotic-pet emergencies); pitch quotes to RehabVet, VanillaPup, and SG pet-lifestyle media
AAOAggregator and authority citationsGet listed in the top vet listicles (RehabVet's "Top 15," VanillaPup's "24-Hour" list); seed Reddit r/askSingapore and Facebook pet-owner groups with helpful answers; secure media mentions via Mothership, AsiaOne, Tatler Pet

This Week — Quick Wins

  • • Publish a homepage FAQ block answering "How much does a vet visit cost in Singapore?" — the #3 PAA result on the head SERP is currently empty of clinic answers
  • • Update your Google Business Profile with current opening hours, after-hours emergency policy, and at least 3 fresh photos
  • • Audit your top 5 highest-traffic pages for NAP consistency and embed your GBP map on each location page
  • • Set up Brand Radar (or equivalent) tracking for your clinic name and your 3 closest competitors

This Month — Content Plays

  • • Build 3–4 neighbourhood landing pages targeting "vet [neighbourhood]" — focus on areas with high pet-ownership density (Punggol, Sengkang, Tampines, Pasir Ris)
  • • Publish at least one niche-pet content page (hamster, rabbit, cat-only, avian) — these are the lowest-difficulty cluster in the entire vertical
  • • Write a transparent pricing guide — even if it's "consultation $80–$120" — and watch ChatGPT cite it within 6–8 weeks
  • • Pitch one quote or expert comment to RehabVet, VanillaPup, or a major SG pet-lifestyle outlet

This Quarter — Strategic Foundation

  • • Build a pillar page for emergency triage — "What to do if your dog ate chocolate," "My cat is in respiratory distress," etc. These match the highest-stakes AI prompts and show up in AI Overview
  • • Develop a senior-pet content vertical — geriatric care for cats and dogs is the fastest-growing AI prompt cluster in this category
  • • Run a PR cycle around a hero veterinarian or a unique service (e.g., TCM vet, rehab vet, mobile vet) — get earned mentions in Mothership, AsiaOne, or Channel News Asia
  • • Audit Reddit r/askSingapore and Facebook pet-owner groups monthly — answer questions transparently with your clinical perspective (not as a sales pitch)
